NOWSTALGIA

[words of creatives of OBJECT PERMANENCE]

Sofia Stagnitti: I feel like we are starting to talk more about the family and nostalgia lately. I know that now we are slowing down in the talk about the pandemic, but when I went back and stayed with my family, I had so much time to look back and spend time with the possessions I had and really cherished growing up. And spending so much time with my family made me think about them more, and I feel that this is something that a lot of people can relate to.

Shaoul Avital: … Over time I became nostalgic about certain things about New York. My friends, the s*tty food, so not even that fancy restaurant, - the halal, the chipotle, the chopped cheese, on the 88th street two blocks away from my high-school…It started during the first quarantine. I was at home alone. Everyone left. Florence was empty. And I just started calling my friends, every f*cking day… The final project was launched. And I think “I’m making it about my friends”! And when I went back to NY one week before my final exam I took pictures of them. They were obviously clowning me because they didn’t understand what I was doing… And I wanted to show this to the world. And it is not about me. It is about the people I love.

Sofia Stagnitti: One of the key themes in our work is the relationship between mother and child, but specifically in teenagehood. We wanted on one side to capture the world of these angsty teenagers, but also their mothers. And I think this aesthetic as a whole can be very very interesting.

Francesco Giuliani: Probably no one can guess that when just looking at that photo, but that was the intention to make it about my family. This artwork is about conflicts: and it is represented in the choice of T-shirts in blue and orange, complementary colors, but also they belong to my father. Then one can also see the white - and it is supposed to keep the blues and oranges together: that is my mother. White… purity… and she is very pure. A conflict that can be also transformed into a dialogue.

Paolo Convinto: I think this is a very relevant topic, especially within the current situation. All the families that have been separated. Clothes and memories, in general, can be a link, or something holy I would say… because even if you are not with your family, then this object that you have almost becomes an amulet.
